What is CPM9v?

CPM 9V is a powder metal tool steel that provides very high wear resistance in combination with high impact toughness. CPM 9V may be used in unique tooling applications for improved toughness compared to CPM 10V and high-speed steels, and improved wear resistance compared to D2 and other tool steels.

What is CPM 9V?

CPM® 9V is a wear resistant cold work steel with high toughness of the CPM® tool steel family. It combines a high carbide density with a tough matrix, resulting in a high wear and creep resistant tool steel with a high toughness and a good compressive strength.

What is CPM 10V?

CPM 10V® powder metal tool steel is a versatile air hardening tool and die steel which provides extremely high wear resistance in combination with relatively high impact toughness. A very large volume of hard vanadium carbides provides the high wear resistance.

What is CPM 10V material?

CPM® 10V is a wear resistant, high performance grade of the CPM® tool steel family. The high amount of Vanadium carbides in a tough matrix provides the optimal combination of wear resistance, cutting edge stability and a good toughness.

Is D2 stronger than S30V?

S30V is a higher-tier knife steel compared to D2. It generally has higher corrosion resistance, toughness, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. D2 is cheaper, but not as good as S30V as it rusts easier and is harder to sharpen. Of course, we can go deeper than that.

Does D2 steel hold an edge?

D2 steel will retain its hardness up to a temperature of 425 °C (797 °F). This steel has a high wear resistance and creates a tough knife that holds an edge. The very high chromium content provides better corrosion resistance than most tool steels and enables it to be semi-stainless.

Is 10V stainless?

10V is not a stainless steel, though it has somewhat better corrosion resistance than simple carbon steels. Heat treating with a low temper (400-500°F) led to a better combination of hardness and toughness than a high temper (1000°F).

Which is better 8Cr13MoV or D2?

D2 is a higher-end steel compared to 8Cr13MoV. If you’re looking for a higher-end, sharper knife, go with D2. If you want a cheap knife you can beat up, go for 8Cr13MoV. D2 tends to have more edge retention and hardness compared to 8Cr13MoV, but is more expensive and less corrosion resistant.

Is S30V a stainless steel?

CPM® S30V® is a martensitic stainless steel designed to offer the best combination of toughness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Its chemistry has been specially balanced to promote the formation of vanadium carbides which are harder and more effective than chromium carbides in providing wear resistance.

Which steel is better than D2?

D2 steel is a tool steel while 8Cr13MoV is considered as stainless steel. The cutting properties of 8Cr13MoV are better than D2 and it can be sharpen more easily.

Does 10V steel rust?

Corrosion resistance of 10V is similar to other high alloy steel steels. The 5.25% Cr and 1.3% Mo provides it enhanced corrosion resistance compared to simple carbon steels but is not a stainless steel.

What is the use of CPM 9V?

CPM 9V is designed for use in tooling which encounters severe wear. Because of its high alloy content, its toughness is lower than most of the other hot work tool steels, and it is therefore not intended for use in applications where the primary failure mode is heat checking or cracking.

What is the specific gravity of CPM 9V?

APPLICATIONS: CPM 9V is widely used for plastic injection feed screws, non-return valves, shear blades, and forging dies. Specific Gravity: 7.41 Preheating: 1500-1550°F (816-845°C), equalize.

What type of wheels for cpm-9v?

In the annealed condition, the machinability of CPM-9V is comparable to that of M-2. Similar grinding equipment and practices used for high-speed steels are recommended. “SG” type of alumina wheels or CBN wheels have generally given the best performance with CPM grades.

What CPM voltage should I use for hardening?

If hardness >HRC 56 is required, consider using CPM 3V or CPM 10V. Toughness Depending upon the application requirement for hardness, lowering the hardening temperature (underhardening) increases toughness. Hardening Tempering Hardness
