What is a NMR lipoprotein profile?
The NMR LipoProfile® test is an FDA-cleared blood test that directly measures the amount of LDL circulating in the body. Historically, LDL cholesterol, or LDL-C, has been used to estimate LDL levels to assess a patient’s LDL-related cardiovascular risk and judge an individual’s response to LDL-lowering therapy.
What is a good small LDL particle number?
Optimal Result: 0 – 527 nmol/L. Your Small LDL-P number is a measure of the number of small LDL particles in your blood. These particles are associated with an increased risk of heart disease; more of these small particles lead to greater risk.
What is a good LDL-p score?
LDL-P is measured by a so-called NMR lipid profile test. A value of less than 1.000 is considered ideal. Above 2.000 is considered very high.
Why lipoprotein A is high?
A high lipoprotein (a) level may mean you are at risk for heart disease. There are no specific treatments to lower lipoprotein (a). Your level of lipoprotein (a) is determined by your genes and is not affected by your lifestyle or by most medicines.
What does it mean when you have high LDL but low triglycerides?
When you have low triglyceride levels but high LDL levels, it could indicate that you have a diet filled with healthy fats. Healthy fats will not only cause an increase in good cholesterol (HDL) but can also change the type of the LDL particles in the blood.
How long should I fast for NMR panel?
Preparation: Fasting for 12-14 hours required. Test Results: 3-4 days. May take longer based on weather, holiday or lab delays.
What is lipoprotein fractionation NMR?
Lipoprotein Fractionation, NMR – The Lipoprotein Fractionation, NMR test is used to help assess the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with intermediate or high risk based on traditional or emerging risk factors, and to assess therapeutic response in patients undergoing lipid-lowering therapy.
What is LDL-C and LDL-P?
LDL-C is a measurement of the cholesterol mass within LDL-particles. Thus, LDL-C is a surrogate measure that only provides an estimate of LDL levels. Studies indicate that the risk for atherosclerosis is more related to the number of LDL particles (LDL-P) than the total amount of cholesterol within these particles.
What is a good HDL P level?
HDL cholesterol levels greater than 60 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) are high. That’s good. HDL cholesterol levels less than 40 mg/dL are low. That’s not so good.
