What do cones and rods do in the eye?

Rods and cones are the receptors in the retina responsible for your sense of sight. They are the part of the eye responsible for converting the light that enters your eye into electrical signals that can be decoded by the vision-processing center of the brain.

Do rods see black and white?

Unlike cones, rods are able to detect light at a much lower level. This is why we see only black and white in dimly lighted rooms or while out viewing a star-filled night sky.

What happens if you have more rods in your eyes?

Deterioration of cones and rods can cause decreased sharpness in vision, increased sensitivity to light, impaired color vision, blind spots in the center of the visual field, and partial loss of peripheral vision.
